Tonight we begin the NHL DFS season. It is a small four game slate to begin the year with a few match-ups that we hopefully will be able to exploit.
As we move forward in the year we will have better game knowledge of coaching styles and line on line projections!
Notable New additions
Tyson Barrie – TOR
James Neal – EDM
Barrie was a great option when he was in Colorado plenty of power play time with players around him that could put the puck in the net. His move to Toronto I would consider lateral and he should have much the same impact as he did. The biggest issue for him is the emergence of Morgan Reilly last year, we don’t know who will end up being the PP1 QB but we can assume it will be Reilly until Barrie can prove himself in the locker room.
James Neal moves to Edm from Vgk I think this is a major move for Neal himself depending on who he skates with. If he is with Connor Mcdavid he is going to be the beneficiary of playing with arguably the best hockey player on the planet.
NHL DFS Player Pool
Austin Matthews (Cash) – 8300/7700
Connor McDavid (Gpp or Cash) – 9000/8100
James Neal (Gpp) – 4800/4500
Brady Tkachuk (Cash) -5800/5200
Morgan Rielly (Gpp or Cash) 5700/5200
Thomas Chabot (Gpp or Cash) 5400/5800
Colin White (Gpp or Cash) 4700/4100
Braden Schenn (Gpp) 5700/4700
Alex Ovechkin (Gpp) 8500/8000
Andreas Johnsson 5100/5400
John Carlson (Gpp or Cash) 6400/5900
Erik Karlsson or Burns (Gpp) 7100/6000 7000/7300
My top three will consist of Mcdavid/Mathews Chabot/White (Meaning Mcdavid for GPP and Mathews for cash.) Sub in Johnsson for salary relief.
Mike Smith-(if he starts) – 7600/7400
Brayden Holtby- 8200/770
Pacioretty/Stone/Glass from VGK
Tavares/Marner from Tor
We are going to roll with the odds-makers in Vegas for the most part in this one Toronto is the heaviest favorite on the slate and I will have my shares of them for sure. The home teams will have last change and can potentially match up lines, I don’t see this happening tonight but be on the lookout for that with Toronto when they play high powered offenses.
Toronto -270 in Toronto O/U 6.5
Stl: -170 In Washington O/U 5.5
Edm: -130 In Edmonton O/U 5.5
Vgk: -170 In Vegas O/U 6.5
Toronto will probably hold the highest ownership of the night making Mcdavid a fantastic pivot for gpp tournaments. I like Edm alot this slate I think they are going undervalued against a Vancouver team that struggles on defense.
As a note of interest; Ottawa actually holds the H2H vs Toronto in recent history going 7-3 vs Tor and 2-1 in the last three games played. This line started out at -300 meaning people are putting money on Ottawa, they are averaging four goals per game vs Toronto.
I’ve talked a bit about Edmonton I think you could run a stack here but normally Mcdavid is pretty much the entire team stacking their PP1 or a one off of Mcdavid with a Tor/Ott stack if things continue as they have historically you could be in for a big scoring night.
With all of this being said: Washington has game breaking potential as does St. Louis and they can score and score in bunches I think these two teams match-up very well vs each other and we are looking at a 2-1 type game.
Vancouver has some good players and good value if you find yourself running into issues with Salary a one off here won’t kill you but might hurt your GPP chances. I see an Edmonton victory with a two or so goal margin.
Vegas has been handling business in the pre-season they have had great success vs SJ and SJ has a suspended winger in Evander Kane for hitting an official, SJ has the regular season H2H vs Vegas but this could be a new year with new trends. This game could either be close or an absolute stomp session either way I suggest you take power play players from this game when making your line up!
Thanks for reading and let’s kick this off with a W for the start of the NHL DFS season!!!!
